Tarpon Springs Florida also hosts the annual Epiphany celebration each January. The Spring Bayou in the center of the city is the site for this elaborate religious event. Many residents and visitors gather here, most being of Greek Orthodox background, to witness the Epiphany wooden cross as it is tossed into the Spring Bayou. Numerous young men dive into the chilly waters of the bayou to attempt the retrieval of the wooden cross and in turn become the recipient of an entire year of blessings and good luck. Festivities and celebrations then continue at the famous Sponge Docks where many enjoy delicious food and entertainment throughout the day.
